Jacie: The Practical Side of Photography

Photography is an art form. For my sessions I analyze lighting, locations, poses, and more to make sure I capture everything I need in my camera. It takes a lot of work to make sure my awesome clients get the photos they deserve!

However, sometimes practical decisions have to be made over artistic decisions. Like when your mother wants a family photo before your brother heads back to college across the country, and you realize it has to happen in the next couple of hours or it won't happen at all.

So we threw together a color scheme, found some clean clothes, attempted to do our hair and makeup, and headed into my parents' backyard for a quick photo. Luckily, they have lots of land so I had location options. Unluckily, it was cold, and we all wanted to make this quick!

I'll be the first to admit that I don't love the finished product. Conditions weren't ideal, timing was off, and doubling up as photographer AND subject is always difficult. With that being said, I decided I wanted to go ahead and share these photos.

P.S. Shout out to my family for doing a good job with practical photography gifts for me for Christmas! My husband got my an upgraded camera battery and my parents got me a much-needed tripod!
